Cantera Real Estate Team member James Brinkman is an active member of North Hills Community Church and has traveled to Haiti on missionary trips in the past year. He has been planning a return trip to the country and was set to leave again next week. James was interviewed on KEYE-CBS News today about the situation in Haiti.

Text from the Keye news story:

Central Texans want to get involved to help Haitians affected by the massive earthquake that struck the country Tuesday.

"We
do various projects there," said James Brinkman, a member of North
Hills Community Church in Northwest Austin, speaking of his previous
missionary experience in Haiti.

Wednesday, Brinkman looked at
pictures and a map hanging on a wall inside his church. He reflected on
his trip, and his hope of being there now.

"Going into the last trip, I was frustrated thinking, are we doing enough? Are we doing as much as we could?" Brinkman asked.

The
Austin real estate agent said he had plans to travel back to Haiti next
week. The trip may be on hold now, but he wants to be there more than
ever.

Brinkman's pastor, Keith Abbott, has been to Haiti five times before, and knows the people there need much more than money.

"Prayer,
to pray for the people of Haiti, they're a beautiful people. They need
our prayer not just now, but always," Abbott said.

But money
certainly helps, and the Central Texas Chapter of the American Red
Cross is helping with a national goal of $1 million.

Even $5 in
Haiti goes a long way. It's worth a lot more than here. Even if that's
all you can do, that's a great donation," said Marty McKellips with the
local chapter.

Money is preferred over "in-kind" donations like
blankets and supplies. McKellips said shipping is too expensive and
would take too long to reach the affected areas.
